Old Nest cameras to the Home app

I have 5 older Nest Cameras. I understand that the newer Nest cameras work exclusively with the Home app. Will we be able to exclusively use the Home app with the older Nest cams at some point? Or, will we have to ALWAYS have the Nest app running along side the Home app? Is this your way of forcing us consumers using the older Nest cams to purchase the newer cams? We want the older Nest cams to work with the Home app, especially the Home/Away assist feature, and NOT have to rely on TWO apps running.

If you have the home app and you are signed in with your Google account you will see your nest cameras as well as your new cameras

But the home/away assist will only work if I have the Nest app running too. This seems a bit absurd.
