Original Nest Hello, wired- remote chime

Freesoul

I have had original wired nest hello doorbell since 2019.  Just realized I can’t use it with an Alexa to chime in remote areas of my building so other family members or guests can hear the doorbell.

i’m having a hard time figuring if I get a Nest mini speaker, will it work to let people know someone has rung the doorbell?  If yes, can they answer it from the mini?
Answers on the internet seem all over the place and it seems like the original wired hello doorbell has limitations that gen2 and battery doorbell do not.  If it doesn’t work, is there something that does.

Hello Freesoul,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Google Nest or Home speakers and displays can announce when someone rings your Google Nest doorbell, or other compatible doorbell. With a smart display, Chromecast or Android TV, you may also be able to see who’s there.

1. Set up your products

You’ll need to install your products and add them to their respective apps before you set up visitor announcements.

Note: Visitor announcements may not be available on all 3rd party doorbells that work with Google. To find out if they're available on your doorbell, check with your doorbell manufacturer.

  1. Set up your speaker or display.
  2. Install your doorbell according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Follow these instructions for Nest doorbells:
  3. Add your doorbell to the Google Home app.
    • Make sure your doorbell is in the same home as your speaker or display. If it’s not, you won’t get visitor announcements.
    • If you have a Nest doorbell, it may have been added to the Home app when you installed it.

Turn on personal results for your speaker or display. Note: If you have a display, select Always show proactively.

2. Turn visitor announcements on or off

Newer Nest doorbell models and other compatible doorbells

  1. Open the Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. In the top right, tap Settings and then Doorbell.
  4. Turn Visitor announcements on or off.

Note: You can also use Do Not Disturb to temporarily turn off visitor announcements for your Google speaker or display.

  1. Open the Nest app app home icon.
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings Nest settings icon and then Visitor announcements. This will take you to the Google Home app.
  4. When asked, follow the onscreen prompts in the Google Home app to complete setup.

To turn visitor announcements off, turn off your display notificationsYou can also use Do Not Disturb to temporarily turn off visitor announcements for your Google speaker or display.

Hope this helps.

Best,
