Outdoor Nest Cam Not Recording Motion

My outdoor nest cam has never been reliable about recording motion but now it gets maybe 10% of passing cars, vehicles that pull into my driveway etc. Sound is no problem but I mainly wanted it for motion. I have Nest Aware. Have contacted customer support several times with no resolution to the problem. Anyone have any ideas what might be done? TIA.

Hello,  I'm an end user as well.  For me I had the same issue early on (now years ago) and I just decided to upgrade to the Nest Aware Plus for $12/month and that way all my cams record 24/7.  It is a feature I really like since the motion detection is not perfect.  But I have to say I have tried cameras from a number of different companies and they all suffer from this issue.

Why should we have to upgrade anything for our cameras to work as advertised? My back yard camera is useless it never picks up any motion. Have people back there for 20 min cutting grass and the camera did not pick up any motion. I also paid for the year membership when i first got the cameras. SMH.

Thanks for posting. I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. What Nest camera are we working on?  Is the issue happening with push notifications or both email and push? Do you all receive push notifications on multiple devices? Also, are your mobile devices connected to a network?

 

Could you all try to connect the mobile device to another Wi-Fi or cellular network? Signing in to your account on another mobile device and triggering a notification to test might also help isolate this.

  • Hello, I I log in with about 3 different devices. My phone connected to cellular and camera on wifi. It does not sense motion. It does not send a notification to any device. It also does not record anything until I actually open the app.

Hi HoustonRN,

 

Got it. Try to restart your Nest camera, this keeps all your settings, and it should reconnect to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever becomes frozen, has trouble connecting to the internet, or isn’t working normally. Check out this link for more information about it.

The cameras and associated home app are simply not fit for purpose at all. Mine have never worked as advertised and for more than 3 weeks now they do not work at all. The cameras are complete garbage. I have two thousand dollars worth of paperweights.
