Outdoor camera failing to charge

I have 2 outdoor battery cameras. One of them charges fine, the other one I've had on charge for 36 hours and it has not got above 16% charge. Is my camera battery faulty?

Hi JamesH1,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that one of your Nest Cams (battery) is failing to charge. Don't worry; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I'd like to confirm some details with you. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • Have you tried to charge this Nest Cam with a different power cable and different power outlet?
  • What's the color of the LED light of your Nest Cam when it's charging?
  • Did you receive any notification from the Google Home app?
  • Did you notice or experience any power outages recently?
  • Have you checked and cleaned the power connectors?

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi @nerys

Thank you for responding.
I have not used a different cable or power point. I have another outdoor camera that I charged without any issues using the same equipment. The camera has a green light when charging. I have had the camera charging for over 48 hours and it reaches around 25% charge and then drops to zero then up again and so on.
The app tells me that the camera is plugged in, then I might have the infinity symbol.
We have not experienced any power cuts.
The cables are free of all dust and cobwebs.

I look forward to your response,
James

Hi JamesH1,

Thanks for your response and for providing this useful information!

I have a few more questions for you, which will help me understand what could be causing this situation. Could you help me answer them?

  • Are the power connectors facing up or down when in normal use (Pogo connector (power cable) and wall socket adaptor)?
  • Are you using the original power cable?
  • How's the weather where you are located?

In the meantime, we can try the next troubleshooting steps:

  • If you have another Pogo connector (power cable), try to charge your Nest Cam with that cable.
  • Perform a factory reset to your Nest Cam (battery). Just keep in mind that doing this action will erase all your personalized settings, the entire video history, and restore the factory default settings. It won't automatically reconnect to WiFi, and you'll need to set it up again.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Thanks nerys,

Your advice was very helpful. I took the camera off its mount and charged it in the house and it is now functioning properly.

Thanks again,

James
