Outdoor nest camera randomly fell?

MattC86

It's been mounted in my garage for about a year. Yesterday it saw me doing laundry. Today I came out it's on the ground. There is no magnet among the parts I've been able to find. There is no video capture of it falling, just me doing laundry yesterday, then I find it on the ground.

It's effectively worthless, and apparently the warranty is only 6 months since it expired on 1/20 of this year? Am I just out of luck.

Also - is this a recurring problem? It was mounted properly and then just randomly fell. Nothing hit it. It was inside a garage. Im just going to assume this has happened to others? Google wont sell me the parts apparently so I am just out of luck?

The mounting magnet for the Google Nest Outdoor Camera is screwed into the wall or ceiling, as shown at about 4:35 in this video:

The mounting magnet for the Google Nest Camera (Battery) is screwed into the mounting plate, as shown at about 4:14 in this video; it's kind of hard to unscrew:

None of our cameras have ever fallen.  Last year there was a post from a customer whose camera fell from the magnet in the base, but it was mounted on a flagpole.

Well, I eventually found it. The camera was mounted above a bench press in my garage. When the thing fell the magnetic part attached to the bench press (I thought it may have ricocheted somewhere - under the washer / dryer - so it took awhile to figure out). The plastic parts and rubber were on the ground.

I have no idea why the camera randomly fell, and why the plastic and rubber would detach from the magnetic piece. It's never been exposed to weather - even though it is an outdoor camera - it just lives inside a garage.
