Prefer using Nest app

BEEFETR

I just added an additional indoor wired camera to my account. I prefer using the nest app on my mobile device but it will not let me connect a new camera using the nest app. When adding a new camera, it forces me to use Google home. How do I set up a new camera and still use the nest app?

You’re going to love this… If it wasn’t so infuriating it would be laughable.  Google in its wisdom, has decided to make the new Nest cameras incompatible with its Nest App, so in short, the answer to your question is that you can no longer use the nest app. Google Home app only and no web interface. Google doesn’t care about what you want.

We have one new Google Nest Camera Battery (with a power cable) that works only with the Google Home app. We have to use the Google Nest app for all of our previous Google Nest cameras and doorbells.

It's not clear to me from Google's explanations (and customer reactions) on these blogs in this forum whether Google will resolve this and when:

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Brad,

Thanks for the reply.  My old 'nest' cameras and doorbells work just fine with my display and speakers, so I don't understand your comment which implies that the solution of forcing users to use two apps is somehow adding features and benefits.

If the Nest app is being sunset, then Google should not be releasing new hardware under the same branding that does not offer a properly integrated solution.  It defies all logic.

What am I missing?

Adam and Brad,

Agreed.  As a user of both the Nest branded products as well as Ring,  by taking the approach that Google was going to release new GEN hardware which will not use the same, existing software interface, abandoning those users, was an abandonment of their existing customer base.  I have searched on the packaging for the new hardware and while it does state that it works with the Google Home app,  nowhere does it state “does not work with your existing Nest software you are accustomed to using and you will not be able to use this device at all if that is your software interface of choice”.  By marketing under the same brand without clearly disclosing this issue and making the buyer aware of this is BS.  Huge regret buying the Google product now.  This has got to be a liability issue for Google.  Am I the only one thinking “buy back”?

The assistance I need is for Google to own up to the gross shortcomings of the product and the failure to adequately and accurately represent their products, including proper transparency and disclosures on the packaging of the products so that the consumer has the opportunity to make an informed decision before purchasing the product.  A known conflict due to Google abandoning the software interface with previous generations products from the newer generations is the problem.  There is one way Google can fix that and that is a buy back.  The consumer can't return the product to the retailer once the seal is broken yet that is the only means of the consumer knowing of Googles actions to abandon previous generations.
