Presence sensing changing devices, on its own.

So I sort of have everything working, I set up presence sensing on my phone (pixel6) and my wife's (iPhone 12)

And it will work for a day or two, then when I go in to check the cameras they will be off while we are away.

I check presence sensing and it tells me that it is active on another device and gives me the option to switch to this device

Then it all works again until it doesn't.

I am having the same issue.  I  have only one phone set up for Presence Sensing, (I am the only person in the household), and every day the Home app tells me I am using another device, and asks if would I like to switch to my current device.  In the meantime my home and away routines do not start. I have sent feedback to Google through the app with no response.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting. I apologize for the inconvenience — let's get this sorted out.

If you are seeing the prompt "Switch to this phone," this means that Presence sensing is being used on a different phone. Just tap the prompt to switch to your current device.

I hope that helps.

Lance

I have to do this every day.  I also live alone with one phone, so what device is it switching to?

Hi Lance,

The issue we are having is not that presence sensing is being used on our other phone, the problem is that we don't have another phone for it to be used on.

Not to be sarcastic but if I was switching between different phones I would not be asking the question. Something is definitely not working correctly because my presence sensing is switching to a device that I hope does not exist.

Hi all,

Thank you for getting back to me. I apologize that the feature is not working.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check for any iOS or Android updates.
  2. Turn off Presence sensing in the Home app.
  3. Uninstall, then re-install the Home app.
  4. Turn on Presence sensing, and make sure to set your phone's location services to always on for the Google Home app.

Also, have you shared your account sign-in credentials with another person? If yes, this can cause unexpected behavior with the home and Nest products. You can invite home members to share the access instead. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings > + Add > home member.
  3. Enter the email address of the person you want to add.
  4. Tap Send invitation.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,
Lance

My problem seems to be better for now, with no action taken on my end.  Not sure what was going on.

My problem seems to have gone away on its own as well with no action taken.

but on a related note is there a way to have your cameras send a notification when they turn on? that would at least give me comfort that it is continuing to work without having to go into the app to check constantly

Hey everybody,

@Sparrow1, we appreciate the update and we're glad that it's resolved now. We understand your idea about getting a notification when your Nest Camera is turned on however, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback using this link to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

I appreciate the help, Lance and Juni.

Best,

Emerson
