Schedule Camera Alerts

WhatARob
Community Member

Just spent a small fortune to replace all my cameras/doorbells with the latest Google Nest devices.

Am I being crazy or does it seem that you can't schedule alerts via the google home app?  I.e. if I only want the cameras to send me alerts between 10pm and 6am, I can't do it.

I must be wrong because this is the most basic functionality that you get with a £20 smart camera!

Welcome to the LONG LIST of things the new cameras can't do that the old ones could.  This is not the fault of the hardware but rather the new cams only use the GOOGLE HOME app which is the problem.  The NEST app is far more feature rich but they are doing away with it.  ...very sad.

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I am terribly sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time with this! I would love to look into this issue further and help find a solution for you. I have some questions I’d like to ask you first:

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device?

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad,

Firstly, I really appreciate your help.  That said, you've largely summed up the frustration I am having at the support I am getting.

You mentioned troubleshooting and restarting the device, but this isn't an issue where something isn't working as it should be, it seems to me that Google Home is largely featureless when it comes to the new Nest Battery Cameras it is supposedly set up for.

What I want to do is have periods during the day where the camera DOES NOT send me notifications, and then periods of the day where it does.  As far as I can tell the only options are to have no notifications when I am Home (which doesn't help at night when I am home in my bed but would like to know if someone is walking around outside my home/in my garden - security camera 101).

Any help would be greatly received.

Hello WhatARob.

It is always my pleasure to help where I can! Unfortunately, I can let you know that no such option like that exists at this time. I think it is an excellent idea, and I have seen similar request from other community members. I can collect this feedback and send it forward for you though! Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Are all of the moderator responses this useless. I would consider it to be basic functionality of a camera to set a schedule for when you are alerted. I don’t need alerts from my floodlight camera during the day when my kids are playing in our front yard. I need them at 2AM when there should not be any movement. How is possible to NOT have this functionality in the app? That’s truly unbelievable.

I would imagine the answer is that the new cameras were ready and in light of the plan to sunset the Nest app and move everything to the home app the decision was taken to make them only compatible with the Home app.

Unfortunately the home app either wasn’t ready or wasn’t tested enough but they wanted to sell the cameras so they bundled the most basic functionality and shipped them.

Early adopters then get stung by both price and poor performance.

Thanks google

I think you’re exactly right. I called today and was basically told the same thing. Essentially, the product is too new for the old Nest app, but the Home app doesn’t support scheduling. It’s insane to me. Hoping an update to the app is coming soon. Love the hardware. The software is ROUGH.
