Setup Nest Hello using serial number

RedSquirrel

Hi,

I recently moved into a new home that already has a Nest Hello installed and firmly attached to the wall outside.  I would like to connect it to my phone to setup camera and doorbell notifications, but I cannot remove the device from the wall to scan the QR code or input the 6 digit key on the back.

I do, however, have the original packaging.  The following support page indicates that the serial number can be used:
https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9235302?hl=en

However, I do not see an option to input the serial number when I select "continue without scanning"; only the 6-digit entry key.

Is it indeed possible to setup/pair the device using the serial number on the original packaging, or is there some other way I can accomplish this without removing the device from the wall?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

If you're new to Nest

  1. Download the Nest app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and create an account.
  3. On the app home screen, tap Add Plus icon.
  4. Scan the QR code on the back of your doorbell. You can also tap Continue without scanning and type the numbers at the top of the QR code.
  5. The app will help walk you through setup and installation.

If you already have an account

  1. Open the Nest app Nest app icon.
    • Note: If you have more than one home in your account, make sure that you’ve first selected the Nest home where you want to install your doorbell. Tap Menu Arrow pointing down in the top left of the home screen to change homes.
  2. In the top right corner of the app home screen, tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  3. Select Add product Nest add product icon. .
  4. Scan the QR code on the back of your doorbell. You can also tap Continue without scanning and type the numbers at the top of the QR code.
  5. The app will help walk you through setup and installation.

Please let me know if that works for you! You should definitely have the option to input the QR code.

Best regards,

Brad.

I can see you didn't really read my question carefully.  I clearly said that I cannot remove the doorbell from the wall to look at the back, and that I was inquiring specifically about how the serial number (on the original packaging, not the key above the QR code) can be used to link the device to my phone.

If the serial number cannot be used this way, that's fine, although that makes the information in the troubleshooting page I linked incorrect.  But I promise I know how to scan a QR code; that's not the advice I asked for.

I have the same issue of not being able to remove the existing Nest Hello from my door. Is there a walk around with the serial number which I have in hand? Thanks!

Hey cn_habs,

I'm sorry for the delayed response. If you can’t scan the QR code, you can manually type in the key or serial number.

  1. Tap Continue without scanning at the bottom of the QR code scanning screen. Then type in your product’s entry key or serial number.
  2. You can tap Find the code or Show me how, and the app will show you where the serial is located on your product.

Thanks,

Archie
