Snow Flakes identified as vehicles by google camera

I've noticed that my google camera sends notificatioms and miss-identifies snow flakes for vehicles. There was a previous post for this issue which was closed due to lack of comments. But the problem is not solved, it is a big problem in the winter season. I tried reducing the motion sensitivity, events, but nothing works. All night, non stop notifications. Any recommendations?

Hi xradiax,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing all the steps you’ve tried to fix the issue with the Nest Cam with Floodlight. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with unwanted alerts. Let’s check it out.

Nest cameras simply use software to look for changes in color and lighting which can trigger unwanted alerts or false positives. Here are common triggers to name a few:

  • Changes in the light level
  • Shadow moving across the frame. For example, if a cloud moves in front of the sun.
  • Trees or bushes swaying near the customer’s important areas.
  • Headlights or flashing entering the field of view.

In this case, I’d suggest setting up an Activity Zone. Follow these steps:

  • On the Google Home app
    • Tap Favorites or Devices .
    • Select the camera they want to set up Activity Zones for.
    • On the top-right,  tap More More menu Settings EventsSeen events.
    • Tap + Add a zone to create zones.

You can check out this guide to learn how to set up and use Activity Zones.

Best,

Lance
