A long time ago (in 2019) I was able to create video clips from the events saved in the timeline of the camera's video history. I only have one currently. Additionally, during this time I was able to view the history clips as actual videos before they would get deleted due to not having a subscription. Currently the clips in the history only show up as screenshots (no matter if they are dots or bars) and there is no playback of these clips. I can also no longer record clips from these history videos as there is no recording to review. Is this a feature that was changed due to not having a subscription? Shouldn't my account be grandfathered in such that I can still utilize the same features I once did?

Once you're past the free 30-day trial Nest Aware subscription you get when you purchase a camera, you only get still snapshots for the most recent 3 hours on the older Google Nest Cameras unless you purchase a Nest Aware subscription.
It's been that way ever since we got our first Google Nest Hello Doorbell in early 2019 .

I understand that the current plan implemented by Google requires the Nest Aware subscription, but at no point in time have I used the free trial for Nest Aware to be able to view the clips (as I can currently start a free trial, and the camera was purchased much earlier than the 2019 recorded clip). I was able to previously view video clips but obviously for a limited amount of time. Seems ridiculous, but perhaps expected by Google, to remove that feature for earlier adopters and don't at least offer some capabilities on a free tier level when many other companies are.

I don't know anything about free access to video clips except what's in my second paragraph below. We got our first Nest Hello Doorbell back in April 2019, and--except for our initial 30-day free Nest Aware trial subscription--have never had free access to video clips, even for a limited period of time.
(On our two 2nd gen cameras, if we did NOT have our Nest Aware Plus subscription, we could access event video history for the most recent 3 hours for free. On our other 1st gen cameras and doorbells, if we did NOT have our Nest Aware Plus subscription, we could access snapshot photos of events for the most recent 3 hours for free.)
These are the details of each subscription level for each camera and doorbell:

Hello everyone,
@SirSlick, thanks for posting in the Community. I wanted to check if you had seen MplsCustomer’s response above. If yes, how was it?
Also, standard features and upgraded Nest Aware features are different depending on which camera, speaker, or display you have and which region your home is in. You can find more information here on what you get with a Nest Aware subscription.
I hope that helps.
Thanks for the assistance, MplsCustomer and Jenelyn.
Regards,
Lance

I have seen it, but linking me to Nest Aware subscriptions doesn't particularly answer my question as it does not pertain to current subscriptions but rather why the business model changed what used to be a feature that I had (without the subscription). It would seem to me that best business practice would dictate retaining a version for, at the very least, original adopters but truthfully maintaining at least 3 hours of viewable video recordings (rather than photo snapshots) for all 1st or 2nd generation cameras would provide greater competition in what is already a competitive market (and would make nest stand out further).
Any thoughts on adjusting the free tier to at least include 3 hours of video footage for all generations?

Hey folks,
@SirSlick, thanks for getting back to us. We hear you and I understand that this feature would be helpful to your end however, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send yours with our Send Feedback form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Let us know if you have more concerns or questions.
I appreciate the help, Lance, Jenelyn and MplsCustomer.
Best,
Emerson

I have had nest cams forever with 60 day recording, nest still works fine. Google replaced one camera since no longer supported in 2024. That camera does not work in nest app, only Google Home. No easy options for clip creation. Plus google only records what they want to record as events. Nest had true 24/7 access, I have video I see and want to save but new google cams on home are severely handicapped, so much that we are now moving to a non cloud, nvr option as Google killed the best features of nestcam when the bought it. Sound familiar.
