The new Nest Cam (wired) doesn't record sound events like the discontinued Nest IQ Cam

The old style cameras I have (Nest Cam IQ) capture sounds and these are listed in the event history, such as "dog barking", "talking", or simply "sound". The new style cameras (Nest Cam - wired) do not seem to do that. Am I missing something? I would be surprised that the newer style would have less functionality. Google Store also advertises the new cameras with sound alerts with Nest Aware, so I'm really confused.

The new Google 2nd generation of cameras (doorbell and others), do not capture a lot of events that the 1st generation Nest camera did. It is also impossible to record clips that are not captured by the camera. This latest is a problem as the new generation of cameras do not capture all usefull recordings.

It's weird the newer model of the camera would be inferior to the older model it's replacing. I do see that there is a huge price difference though. The old ones sold for $399, while the new ones are selling for $129. A strange choice, but maybe there were supply issues with parts for the older model. Thanks for confirming though!

@mshaughn

Our 2 newer Google Nest cameras can only detect sounds from carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, unlike our older cameras.

Is there a reason why Google got rid of the other sound detection?

I feel like maybe that should be noted on the Google Store. I saw that it only listed motion, people, vehicles, and animals under "included alerts", but it also listed sound under "intelligent alerts with Nest Aware" so it's a bit misleading. What are intelligent alerts?

@mshaughn

Maybe someone from Google Nest will answer your question.

Oops! I wasn't paying attention and saw "our cameras" thinking you were someone from Google talking about "your product". Sorry about that!

@mshaughn

No offense taken! We have the same question; since our carbon monoxide and smoke detectors already produce their own very loud alarms, recognizing just those alarms and nothing else isn't our idea of "intelligent alerts", and we don't use them.
