I have a Nest doorbell and a Nest Cam (battery) linked to my Nest Hub Max. I hear sound coming back from both of these, but only the doorbell shows a microphone symbol. How do I speak back through the Nest Cam? There must be something in the setup that I am missing.

On our Nest Hubs, we also do NOT get a microphone option for the Google Nest Battery Camera (or for our other Nest cameras); we only get a microphone option for doorbells.
In the Google Home app, we get a microphone option for ALL Nest cameras and doorbells.
In the Google Nest app, we get a microphone option for all older Nest cameras and doorbells, EXCLUDING the ones released starting in the fall of 2021 that work ONLY with the Google Home app.
So, the bottom line seems to be that we can talk through our Nest Cameras only through the apps, but NOT through our Nest Hubs.

Thanks for your comments. Nice to know that I am not the only one with this problem. Rather odd, because when the original (2021) Nest Camera was the only device linked to my Nest Hub Max, I had the "Talk" option. It was only after the Nest Doorbell was later added that the talk option for the original camera disappeared from the Nest Hub Max. As you say, that option now appears to be available via the My Home app on my cell phone.

I just saw another thread about the fact that customers can talk to doorbells from a Nest Hub but cannot talk to cameras, with another customer also recalls being able to talk to a camera from a Nest Hub Max in mid-2020, before the functionality disappeared:

No, the issue was not addressed. I would like to know why I can't be heard through the cameras after the chime is sounded. Please help. Thank you

Have you tried to adjust the volume in the settings when you are trying to use the Talk & Listen feature? Or are you stating that it cuts out after the button is pressed?
Best regards,
Brad.

Hi Brad. The volume is turned all the way up. The only thing that is heard is the chime which sounds more like an annoying beep. No voice comes through at all or cuts out after the button is pressed.

This is a know bug I am afraid. You can find more help on the thread here. We are still collecting data on this issue, and I do not have a fix or an ETA to provide. Please refer to the main thread in the link. This thread will be locked to keep this issue organized and merged to the original thread.

Also, there is no real volume control in settings. Just microphone on/off which obviously I have on and microphone sensitivity which I have at 100%. The only other option is talk & listen tone with is the chime thing which I have on as well.

When the Talk & Listen feature is activated it only activates the chime and again, there is no volume control under that option.

When I try talking through the Nest cameras, they beep to let them know I am about to speak but my voice does not come through. How do I fix this so I can talk back through the camera?
