Under Development

My first post, but straight to the point.

Is there a website that gives a list of features under development?

I just purchased 4 Google Nest Outdoor (Battery) cameras. I have the Google Nest Doorbell (Wired) and use the Nest app to share a link with family and friends. I was excited to get the new cameras set up so that I could share the link to one of the cameras that points to my neighbors house. She's out of town a lot and asks me to look and see and this was going to give her the freedom to look and see when ever she would like. But unfortunately, these cameras don't work with the Nest app, only with Google Home. I thought the reason Google and Nest got together was to create better things. This feature along with Time Stamped video are important. If they are not planning to implement them, then I need to return these things and spend my money elsewhere. Not being mean, but if it's not going to do what I need, then I don't need it.

Hi @RLybrand

The only " roadmap" I currently know of is the one that can be found on this community website: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/bg-p/blog

One of the announced things is using a website to view your cameras.
So if your neighbors are part of your family or invite you to see the cameras, that should be a method to share later.

The time stamp request is one I didn't notice yet on one of the blogs, but I could be wrong. 🙄

Many of us have been surprised to find out that the newer Google Nest cameras and doorbells don't work with the Google Nest app.

There is no website about what's under development. However, about 3 weeks ago, Google Nest posted these announcements (below) about long-promised updates. The second blog post seems to show a timestamp in the camera footage, but I suspect this is just a screenshot from development and does not guarantee that a timestamp will be included when the update is released:

Don't feel bad.  These cameras barely work with the Google Home app.

Hi folks,

@RLybrand thanks for posting here in the community and I understand your concern about controlling the new Nest cameras to the Nest App. However, the new Nest cameras and Nest doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience for a new model of devices. We appreciate your thoughts about making our products better and more user-friendly. We’re working on adding more features and improvements.

I'd suggest you send feedback about this using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about this. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about your concern.

I appreciate the help, @RXShorty and @MplsCustomer

@EmersonB

For over a year now, everyone associated with Google Nest has been repeating this phrase: "the new Nest cameras and Nest doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience for a new model of devices." It ignores the fact that it fails to provide an integrated experience for all of us Google Nest customers with cameras and doorbells released prior to the autumn of 2021.

Thank you. I have submitted the form and hopefully the issues will receive a review.

I mentioned event driven routines.

Example would be the camera spots a person approaching the house and an event is triggered based on time of day. If it's day, nothing happens, if it's night, flood lights in that area are turned on as well as some interior lights.

I also mentioned web based viewing both with or without a password. This way, if I'm away from my property someone like my mother or neighbor can keep an eye on my property.

Time stamped video is also important if it would need to be used in a legal manner.

Nest app offers the browser option. At one point we could use the app IFTTT to control things. But I believe this has be deactivated.

Thanks again. Hopefully the engineer dept will take these ideas into consideration.

@RLybrand

There is a desktop web app for Google Home which is now available to our users as of a few days ago. You can check it out here. Give that a try and see if that does the trick.

The Google Nest camera only works sporadically with the Google Home app.  Not a good look.
