I want to get text message notifications on my pixel 5a when the doorbell is rung. Also, I would like to use motion detected as a trigger in automations. For example when the camera sees motion, it triggers an automation in Google Home to turn on a light.

Notifications for Google Nest cameras and doorbells come through the Google Nest app or the Google Home app. There is no text message option.
I can't speak to triggering automations.

only way to get a text message would be to use an app like Tasker on your phone. Then create a task that when a notification comes in that the doorbell has pressed then to send a text message. I mean it would be a double notification i guess but it would work.
As for a motion event that can be done via coding it in in the automations using a motion detected starter followed by a turn on light action.
starters:
- type: device.event.MotionDetection # Motion has been detected by the device.

Hi folks,
Thanks for chiming in, @MplsCustomer and @Super_paulie.
@petergrasse, thanks for posting. Notifications on your phone or tablet known as "Nest camera alerts" are sent when significant activity is detected by your Google Nest Camera or doorbell. Only the Nest and Google Home apps allow you to control camera notifications. Take a look on this Camera and doorbell alerts article to learn more.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Zoe

I wanted to get SMS text messages on my phone when the doorbell is rung. After much research, I have discovered a workaround using Samsung Smartthings. This platform will send SMS Text messages when the Nest doorbell is rung. Smartthings can also access the motion sensor in the Nest doorbell as a trigger for other actions. Google Home needs some new functionality to keep up.
