Warning - no timestamps on exported video from Home app

Community Member

The video is stored in the cloud, but you don't know how long they will be available, as older videos are deleted when storage space is needed. This means that you need to export video that you want to keep. Here is the BIG problem - exported video does not have any timestamps on it at all. The nest app had timestamps on exported video, but the Home App is what Google support advises to use, and they don't warn you about this feature loss.

The competing products such as Ring, eufy etc.  all have timestamps on exported video.

Google support don't care about this, and their legal team says tough luck so sad for you, we never said it has timestamps. Don't recommend any of the Nest cameras as a "security" camera as per their product spiel, its purely a video camera that records into the cloud for an undetermined length of time. If you miss an incident, and it gets overwritten, you're stuffed. Also needs monthly subscriptions for the smart features.

Hello marshmallows888,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. We understand that the timestamp feature is not available in the Google Home app when you download your clips and we don't have any news to share about applying this feature to the Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this link to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.
