What counts as an event?

Hi there,

I have a fairly random question that is in no way urgent, but I'm just very curious: what exactly counts as an event? Because I have the feeling that the event counter in the top left corner does not count the events that I see in the actual timeline but something else completely. It's currently a little past 4 in the afternoon and my camera has picked up 1920 (!) events today. When I count how many events I see on my timeline, it's only been 43, and that mainly consist of the neighbourhood cat cutting corners through my front yard. My camera picks up a pretty wide angle of the street, but parallel to the street I live on is a very busy road, that my camera also picks up. I assume the events spotted in the counter could be any car driving by on the busy road, plus the cat, plus rain drops on the camera every now and then,  but I specifically set the zone it should be picking up events in to a very limited, small area, so movement on the road in the background won't be counted as an event. So therefor my question once more: what counts as an event? I'm very confused.

Depending on the type of Nest camera, the device can detect events such as people, animals, vehicles, or motion in general. If motion detection is enabled, it can sometimes trigger not just for important things but also for minor things like tree branches that sway in the wind. If you only need your camera to detect people, animals, or moving vehicles, it's recommended that you do not turn on this feature.
