What is the point of the nest Mount type option?

Hi, I bought made a custom mount for one of my best outdoor cams utilising the 1/4” fitting as it runs on solar now.

There is an option on the app under device settings for the camera where you select the type of mount:

  • “Made for Google” option means the camera only active when it is attached to a magnetic mount.
  • “Other mounts” means the camera is always active regardless of whether it is mounted or not.

Now why would we want the first option which is the default? What if the camera falls off, or stolen? Would we not want to be able to capture any of that  footage of that event and thereafter?

Just want some reasoning behind this feature…

Hey Awff,

I know it’s been a while, and thanks for posting here in the Community forum.

If you have the Made for Google accessory (available in the Google Store), you should choose the "Made for Google" option for the Nest Cam (Battery), as it is what is most recommended for our customers since this is designed specifically for the Nest Cam (Battery). Choosing the option for "Other mounts" is what you should choose if you are using a third-party mount, but take note that it may affect the camera's performance.

Let us know if you have any other questions. We’re happy to help.

Best,

Zoe
