When doorbell is pressed, I get a message on all hub devices that 'camera feed is not available'

I am having the exact same problem as this thread, is there a resolution now?? https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Nest-hub-camera-feed-is-not-available/m...

It's been working absolutely fine for me for almost 2 years and suddenly I get this message as attached in the image, everytime the doorbell is pressed. I tried every trick, nothing helps resolve it. I can access the stream easily by asking Google to show me front door, so there is no problem with the stream.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your reports with us. We have an update for you: we've rolled out a fix that should resolve this issue for most users. The next time someone rings your doorbell, please confirm that your Nest Hub displays your camera feed.

Keep in mind, there is a small number of users who haven't received a fix yet. Rest assured we're on top of it, and we'll be sharing updates here in the community. Thanks for your patience!

Cheers,

Muddi

I have made mine work. For now at least!

On one of the many threads, I found someone who changed the chime setting in their Nest App and was successful in making theirs work again.

Nest > Select camera > Settings > Indoor chime On/Off > Change to Off

Note: as of today, Dec 2, 2023, the Google Home app doesn’t have this setting, you must go into the Nest app. I’m not sure what will happen when they discontinue the Nest app and solely have the Google Home app. We will cross that bridge when we get there.

Some users were not successful with their cameras using this, but mine actually worked. All of my devices alert of the doorbell ringing, it just bypasses using your houses original doorbell.

Good luck!!!

Same issue here…I also noticed tonight that when someone press the button to ring the bell, the Nest Doorbell reboot itself in some way 🤕 can you help me?
Also my device start peeling again… I’m very sad and disappointed.

Thanks for you support.

Filippo

@filippocamillo,  Hello,  I'm and end user like you (I do  not work for Google).  Do you have the original NEST HELP doorbell?  Is your doorbell less than one year old?  If it is then Google will most likely replace it under the 1-year warranty.  If it is more like 3 years old then  you are mostly likely running into the same problem where the internal battery is no good.  When the button is pushed the doorbell runs off the battery (just for a moment).   Your best bet is to buy a new or used one from an online place like eBay.

Thanks for your reply! Yes, it’s the original one and I think it’s 3 years old. I don’t know what’s your opinion, but I think this is unacceptable for a brand like Google. A doorbell MUST regularly work for years (and I mean many years). My previous (dumb) video doorbell served for 10 years and I replaced it just to have a smart one.

@filippocamillo

The internal batteries in all three of our Nest Hello Doorbells have failed. They are 4 years old, 3 years old, and 2 years old. Google Nest says they "cannot" replace them if they are older than the 1 year warranty. We've turned off the "Indoor chime" option on all three (as a result they no longer go offline for a minute when the doorbell button is pressed) and rely instead on "Visitor announcements" on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini.

This long thread details other customers' experiences with this issue; there are over 1,000 replies:

Hello again,  For now if you do replace it I suggest staying with the NEST HELLO model even if you get a used one.  The reason is the new GEN2 Doorbell (wired or battery) only works with the GOOGE  HOME app which at the moment lacks a lot of features that the NEST app has.  Hopefully this will change in the future as Google says they are moving the Nest functions to the  GOOGLE Home app.  But we have been waiting for this for over 2 years.

As for my opinion  NO product with a battery should be designed in such a way that the end user can't order a replacement and swap it themselves.   Google and many other companies do this and it is frustrating and wasteful to not be able to give these things a longer life span before they end up in land fills.

I fixed the issue by going into the Nest app, Nest Hello doorbell settings, turned "off" the indoor chime. When the nest hello doorbell button is pressed, I now see the doorbell video feed pop up on phone and all Nest hubs.

@James20248

That could be because the internal battery on your Nest Hello Doorbell has failed. (Yes, there is a battery on the Nest Hello. Its purpose is to provide power for the doorbell in the instant when power is diverted to ring the indoor doorbell chime when the doorbell button is pressed.) When that happens, the Nest Hello Doorbell goes offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed, UNLESS the "Indoor chime" option is turned off.

It's now happened on all 3 of our Nest Hello Doorbells, and we rely on "Visitor announcements" instead.

bodge-tastic. just while i'm wiresharking what multicast groups all my nest devices are in for the next half a dhcp lease... does anyone fancy turning off all the igmp proxying on their router? with the proxy to save my lan i get the "not available". without it... tickety-boo. cast a song to your mini and get a notifier. cast the same song to your hub and *zip*. quality products. tip top support 🤣

Google, your hubs are crap. Fix this. I can see all my cameras displaying just fine on the app. Not a single one will display on the hubs unless I open the app and leave it open on my phone, then the hubs magically display the cameras.

I factory reset my hub and the problem went away for 24 hours and is now back again. This is ridiculous! It worked perfectly for about a year and then you guys rolled out an update and nuked your own product. Fix this or I'm switching to Wize.
