Why can newer nest cams create Clips?

I have an event, that the Nest Cam didn't detect as an event and I have no way to record it. How can I pay for a subscription, and STILL not have the ability to make arbitrary clips. I will NEVER buy another peice of Google hardware.

This has been an issue for years. Their newer Google Home is a vastly inferior app when it comes to camera functionality. I too have been frustrated by this for YEARS. Their new Google Home web view not only doesn't allow recording but it doesn't even let you VIEW clipped or non-clipped events. It's a live view ONLY. They hyped up this product years back and basically abandoned it.

It is maddening. The usability of the old app is completely intuitive and saving clips is simple and convenient. Why they didn't include the same things in their new line of cameras is mind boggling. The video scrubbing in the Google Home app sucks compared to the Nest app -- they didn't even include the 15-second rewind/fast forward buttons!

Hey there,

Thank you for submitting your feature request! We understand the importance of creating clips with your cameras, and we’re always looking for ways to improve, and appreciate your feedback. You can send it at any time using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps found here. This feature request thread will be locked for 24 hours. We'll leave it open during that time for any follow-up questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Brad

It's not a feature request. It's a feature that was removed. Nest cams in the past had the capability to capture arbitrary clips both in the app and on the website. Now it's not possible at all on newer devices. I have already cancelled my Nest subscription and am looking for alternatives from more reliable sources.

Totally agree. What avenue do we have to actually speak with the product team instead of these forums which just get closed and archived? It would be great to talk with product management or have insight into their roadmap or backlog.

As pointed out, this is not a new feature request. We're asking Google to restore functionally that was removed after try merged with Home. We didn't have a choice to migrate. We bought into an ecosystem, and subsequently had functionally removed after the fact. It's akin to a bait and switch scam.

That's an excellent idea, report this as bait and switch to the FTC!
