Why does Google Nest Outdoor camera suck at recording full events?

I don't know if this is a camera issue or an app issue, but it's a horrible problem that makes the Google Nest Outdoor Camera completely worthless!

The camera is horrible at catching events, but what's even worse is that it never catches the full event. It starts recording too late or stops recording too soon or both. I have missed so many events because of this! I even missed a theft in progress of a neighbor's vehicle! Such a worthless camera!

So is this a camera issue or an app issue? Please fix this Google!

Make it work like the original indoor Nest camera running on the Nest app! That product is the best! It catches every event and records well before the event starts and way after the event ends. You don't miss a thing. How can The Google not make their product as good or better than the original Nest? A bit embarrassing if you ask me.

There's 2 issues to fix:

1. Catch more events. I have the setting on very sensitive and record for maximum time. It still only catches 50% of the events. It's plugged in 24/7.

2. Make it so that it captures well before the event and well after the event. Just like the Nest app, allow viewing footage between events. I don't want to miss anything. Otherwise what's the point of this expensive camera?

Is everyone else having this issue?

Hi @Fan99,

Thanks for posting in the community forum. I understand your concern about the way your Nest Cam Outdoor records events. I appreciate the information you've shared and your feedback, we'll definitely take it into consideration. No worries, help is here.

Nest cameras can detect important sounds or motion. They run algorithms to process video and audio data to determine if they've detected something you might want to know about. As a result, they can sometimes trigger not just for important events but also for minor occurrences like tree branches swaying in the wind. To learn more about this, please check out the following articles: How Nest cameras detect sound and motionEvent and 24/7 video history.

You can also help us by sharing feedback about our devices and services. Your comments are really important to us, and we'll take them into consideration. It helps us develop new features, improve existing ones, and make sure our devices are meeting your needs.

Cheers,
Jonathan
