Wired Nest 2nd Generation doorbell recording time

It seems that Google has removed the ability to adjust how long the doorbell records each event.  I purchased a Nest 2nd Gen doorbell in March of 2023.  When I set it up, I was able to adjust the length of each event.  A few weeks ago, the doorbell malfunctioned and I had to go get another one from Lowes.  After installing I noticed that the time option had been removed.  After some investigation it seems Google is trying to upsell their premium subscription service which allows for a 10 day 24/7 recording history.  So to summarize, Did Google remove the ability to adjust the time of each recorded event in an attempt to force upsell the Nest Aware subscriptions?

Hello,  I'm a long time end-user of these cams and I'm pretty sure nothing has changed other than a recent price increase for the subscriptions.  For $8/month (now $10) you get event based recordings for up to something like 10 cameras.  Only motion events are recorded.  And as I remember I think there was a setting for how long the maximum event would record for.  But would not guarantee it would be that long.    I can't check it because i'm on the Nest Aware PLUS plan which is now $20/month but you get 10 days of 24/7 recording which to me is invaluable.   I have tried many cameras on the market and for event recording that ALL suffer from starting the recording to late or chopping off the ending and stopping to early.    And since I have 5+ cameras it is even more worth it.  Keep in mind 5 cameras all uploading to the cloud for 24 hours a day eats up some UP bandwidth but luckily I have great internet from Spectrum.

Here is a link with more detailed info on the subscriptions...

Hope this helps.

Ohhh,  I did find this... does this help?

Give these steps a try:

  • Open your Google Home app> select your Nest Camera.
  • Go to settings> video and choose the maximum length for event video recordings.
    • 3 minutes
    • 2 minutes
    • 1 minutes
    • 30 seconds (default)
    • 15 seconds
    • 10 seconds

Yes I found that too, and it worked prior to them splitting the subscription, but it doesn't now.
