Wired Nest cam cannot find my wifi network

Vst
Community Member

Hi,

My wired nest cam 2nd gen cannot find my network. Its not showing under network names list during setup. The signal is strong, every other device in my home connects to the network, except the cam. Month ago I've managed to make it work, but after that it cannot connect anymore.

I've tried everything that the community and support suggested - but with no success.

Please help me with that issue. Thanks in advance!

Hi Vst,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Camera Indoor (wired) can't find your Wi-Fi network. Don't worry; it would be a pleasure to assist you.

I'm grateful for your time and effort in completing some troubleshooting steps previously. To gather further details and determine the optimal resolution, could you please help me by answering the following questions?

  • What's the status of the LED light on your camera?

  • Do you see an error code or notification on the Google Home app?

  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the camera?

  • What Wi-Fi frequency band do you try to connect to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?

  • Could you confirm which troubleshooting steps you have tried so far?

I'll be looking forward to hearing back.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hi, thanks for the answer.
So, to your questions:

  • "What's the status of the LED light on your camera?" - When I start the setup - it lights blue. I've also done a camera reset - still the camera cannot see my network.

  • "Do you see an error code or notification on the Google Home app?" - No error code.

  • "Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the camera?" - Nothing connected except my Google Pixel phone.

  • "What Wi-Fi frequency band do you try to connect to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?" - I think its 5Ghz, but the camera worked on the same router, same configuration just few weeks ago.

  • "Could you confirm which troubleshooting steps you have tried so far?" - I've done camera reset, camera unplug, router reset, router unplug, home uninstall, my home deleted and created new home etc. Nothing worked. There are many networks present, but I see networks with less strong signal and cannot see my network. The camera is about 2 meters away from the router. And once again - the camera worked properly few weeks ago.

I wander what is the problem?

Hey Vst,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. To continue addressing the situation, let’s try to implement additional steps.

  • Use a different mobile device or tablet to set up your camera.

  • Use a mobile hotspot to set up the Nest device, and check if you’re experiencing the same behavior.

  • I recommend you try to connect your device to a 2.4 GHz network, as it has a wider and more stable signal strength than 5 GHz.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel
