Wiring doorbell chime with four wires for Nest Doorbell

I was attempting to install a wired Nest Doorbell, which I’ve done on two other houses, but was surprised to find a different configuration on the chimes. There are two wires each on the Transformer and Front connections - never seen that before, and Nest Support immediately told me to contact Ontech. Has anyone ever seen this before (photo attached). This is an old Nutone chime. The door bell has the expected 2 wires.685A423B-62BB-4123-B3D7-23ECD081A629.jpeg

The OnTech technician tested the wires to find out which ones connected to the doorbell, and ignored the other two (just left them hooked up to the chimes, along with the Nest connections. This was a very old chime, which may have been connected to an intercom system.  Everything works now.

Nothing left to discuss from my end since the Nest doorbell works. I did find another older chime, which is likely where the additional wires connect to. Old houses are a lot of fun. These bells do not ring, although there does seem to be current running to them.

Would love to know if you ever figured this out.  My new home has the same setup (though it also has two wires on rear).

I hate to admit that I gave up and scheduled Ontech to do it. I’ll post the solution once it’s done.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I'm terribly sorry to hear that you're having this issue, I understand how upsetting this could be, but I'm happy to assist you with this issue. Here is an article that goes over compatibility. Look it over and see if your system you have is compatible with a chime.

Best Regards,
Brad
