familiar face detection

Familiar face detection quit operating. It no longer adds new faces to the list and the only editing it will allow me to do is delete a face. It will ask if the face that it detects is a person.

This is happening on three outdoor cameras and the nest doorbell.  I am subscribed to nest aware plus.

Any help is appreciated

Hi @Dcieslin,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't able to add familiar face detection to your list.

I'd also like to ask a few questions:

  • Do you have an active Nest Aware subscription?
  • Would you mind sharing a screenshot of the error message you received?

In the meantime, try this troubleshooting step:

  • App Glitch: Sometimes, a simple app restart can resolve temporary glitches. Close the Google Home app completely and relaunch it.
  • App and Phone Updates: Make sure your Google Home app and phone are up to date.
  • Reinstall Google Home App (Optional): If restarting the app doesn't help, try reinstalling the Google Home app. This can clear any app data glitches.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

Melanie,

Thank you so much for responding.
I do have a nest aware plus subscription.
I have already removed all devices from the home app and un-installed the app and reinstalled.  Also rebooted all equipment.
Familiar face did work for over a year and worked well.
I recently added the three nest cameras  and this is when I noticed the change.
Face recognition still acknowledges the presence of people who already exist on the list. It just doesn't add new faces. It questions whether a new face is a person. That is as far as it goes. I get a thanks for responding  and that's it.
I have screen shots ,just need to figure out how to post.
Also,
When trying to use near aware in the nest app, it doesn't work at all
Thanks
Dennis

Hi @Dcieslin,

Thanks for following up. As you mentioned before, you added three Nest cameras recently.

To better understand the situation, I'd like to know:

  • Are your Nest cameras 1Gen or 2Gen?
  • Did you set up all three Nest cameras on the Google Home app or the Nest app?

Keep me posted. I'm happy to help.

Best regards,

Melany

Hello Melany,

Again, thank you for responding.

The three nest cameras. Are second generation.  And all the doorbell and camera's were all set up with the home app..

The nest app does recognize that I have a nest aware subscription but I have bee unable to activate and use it on the nest app.

In the home app everything seems to work except sending new faces to the familiar face list. After I acknowledge that it is indeed a person I get thanked for letting it know that it is a person and that is it.

As I have said before it does recognize existing faces and notifies me who it is.

Thanks again for your response.

Dennis

Hi @Dcieslin,

Thanks for the update.

Have you tried the steps in this guide?

Once you turn familiar face detection on, you must turn on "Person alerts" in the camera’s notification settings to get familiar face alerts.

In the Google Home app:

  • Open the Home app.
  • On the home screen, select the camera.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Choose Notifications.
  • Tap People.

Nest Aware Plus Subscription:

  • Verify Subscription Status: The Nest app will not recognize the active subscription since you have migrated your account. Double-check your Nest Aware Plus subscription status on the Google Store.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Melany

Thanks for your help, everything appears to be operating correctly now.
