My existing doorbell chime (electronic) needs a diode across the door bell button for it to work . Do I still need the diode for the chime to work when I install the nest doorbell (battery) in wired configuration? Tks

Hi there,
I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I would love to help however I can. The new 2021 Nest Doorbell (battery) can be connected to an existing chime, but it's meant to send you notifications instead.
Best Regards,
Brad

Hey there,
I am gonna be transparent and say that I have no clue what a diode is. I do not know what you mean. I am no electrician.

Electronic chimes like mine plays a melody for several seconds not like a mechanical chime. If you press the bell button and release it , there is power to the chime only while you press the button meaning that you wont hear the whole melody if you release the button as soon as you press it.
So an electronic device needs to be added across the bell button terminals that allow current to continue to flow to power the chime, when the button is released. The component that does that is a diode .

There is no such option with our Cams and Doorbells. They connect to the provided chime for the Nest Hello doorbell, but if you want additional help you are in the wrong place for that. Please contact Support.

I installed the nest battery video doorbell today . I removed the diode that used to be connected across the doorbell button of my chime. The indoor chime now works as well as the nest videodoor bell. Must increase doorbell chime time in setting to about 7 secs to hear the whole tune. BTW how to I set the app it up so that the video camera displays as soon as it detects people instead of after opening the home app. Thanks
