iOS notifications disappear for Google Home cameras

Dave_D_W

Hi,

i *think* this issue started with iOS17 beta, but even now with the RC version the problem persists.

The notifications do get sent and I’ll even see them flash up on my phone, but then they’ll just vanish, they aren’t even available when you swipe up on the lock screen to see the history.

The weird thing is, it doesn’t happen on all notifications, but I’d say at a guess 90% of them.

This happens for a battery doorbell and two battery cams, the old gen 1 indoor camera on the Nest platform is unaffected.

Any help appreciated!

App version: 3.6.104

Dave.

Greetings, I am having the same problem as all who have logged a comment. My notifications are disappearing. This started occurring after apple update. Asking for assistance getting this fixed. Cameras are useless if you are not going to be notified of an event.

Yep. Still no solution. Or even acknowledgement from Google on it. Really disappointing.

Hi all, just to note I’ve formally logged a ticket with their development team. Referencing this thread so please feel free to continue to add to this chain. They have acknowledged the issue.

Just to add, whilst mine seemed a lot better when I got my new phone, it’s now back to how broken it was, with notifications popping up and disappearing almost instantly.

While I’m sorry to hear this, I must admit it gives me some comfort that it is definitely not device specific. They have released an update since the iOS 17 update. How they could have released the latest update knowing that it’s most pertinent and useful function does not work is just not good enough.

I’ve just updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 17.2 and the notification issues appear to have been resolved.. for now!

Thanks - just updated, lets see what happens!

Same, updating now, will revert with feedback also

Nope, 17.2 no difference for me, alert flashed up on my watch, went to check it on my phone and it's not there

Same. No change with 17.2.

Just as a quick FYI, issue is persisting with me also. I had actually thought it was fixed but unfortunately not.

Just wondering if anyone has seen an improvement? Mine is the same, yet to receive comms from the dev team.

Same here. Sad.

Does everyone here have an Apple Watch?? I feel like this issue has something to do with the Apple Watch.

No.

I’ve been dealing with this for months now. X (Twitter) Google Home team has been no help. This all started after iOS17

Same. Exact. Thing. Yet nothing here from Google about it.

Guys please add to this chain. I have a ticket logged with their dev team but the more people that acknowledge this wide spread issue the more attention it will get.

Google Home app had an update last week. Has anyone noticed any improvement after the update ?

David87

I wasn’t aware of the update and it didn’t auto update for some reason. I have now updated and will keep you posted.

Updating the app made no difference to me. In fact I got so frustrated I erased my phone, restored it, reset all settings, AND deleted and recreated all my zones on my camera. But it made no difference - the notifications continue to come up for like half a second and then disappear.

I'm getting towards the end of the line here. Especially with zero feedback from Google on this issue.

I have also provided a review referencing this forum via the App Store’s Write a review option. Hoping it catches someone’s eye.

Google does have a bad habit of killing their products, I am hoping this isn’t on the chopping block yet.

I cannot believe Google has not yet even acknowledged this issue. I have been following this thread for months. I have 5 total cameras, 3 of which are Google Home Only, and I do not get notifications that stay for any of those 3. The notifications pop up and dissapear instantly.

There are multiple threads across here, Reddit and other platforms documenting this. What the heck?

Dave_D_W

Yep, quite amazing really how little they seem to care.

Probably going to have to jump ship soon, short of reviewing the history in the app, how would you even know if the cameras triggered overnight.

It is pretty ridiculous at this stage. I am dealing with the google twitter account on DM’s they have been very responsive and in fairness are proactive acknowledging it’s taking the dev team time to review but they haven’t yet formally confirmed that they acknowledge the issue.

I haven’t seen the issue on Reddit yet- could someone share that link?

Has everybody retweeted the link I posted in here? I don’t think they have judging by the metrics on the tweet.   Unfortunately, without public push we will never get a response. I am pretty frustrated at this point. All my older nest cameras work fine. All my newer google home cameras (including floodlight cameras that were professionally installed and doorbell are useless)it’s such a pain.

multiple resets etc do nothing to fix it.

Wishful thinking here but my google home app was updated the other day and in the notes they state they are rolling out a completely redesigned google home app over the next few weeks. I guess we'll see if they are able to get their products working properly.

Good luck - I've been on the beta of this ever since the notification problem started happening...

I’m having the same issue.
I’ve tried for ages to find a solution, but I just can’t find one.

Im seriously starting to regret choosing google (3 cams and doorbell).

Hi Dennis (and wider community forum) can you please, please retweet this. It was the original tweet to google, I’m still waiting for an update from their engineers.

I honestly cannot believe that this issue has been going on for FOUR MONTHS without any acknowledgement or fix from Google. It's insane. If they don't want to support Nest, just tell us so we can switch to another platform.

I've been watching this thread since it began. When it was first reported, we had problems with disappearing notifications for our Google Nest Battery Camera for a short while, but have not had any problems since early October. Since then, notifications remain on all 4 of our iOS devices until cleared. The circumstances under which it does occur do not seem clear (at least to this user).

We have 2 different models of iPhones, as well as 2 different models of iPads, are running the latest versions of iOS (except for the older iPad that is on version 16), are running the latest version of the Google Home app (NOT the beta "Public Preview" version), and have an Apple Watch paired with one of the iPhones.

That’s awesome that yours is working. Our home is still a mess. Here’s what we’ve done:

1. Deleted and reinstalled Google Home multiple times.
2. Left public preview.
3. Erased entire phone and reinstalled everything

4. My wife got a brand new iPhone (unrelated to this issue but still)

Nothing has gotten notifications to stay. All devices are on the latest versions of iOS 17.

We're still in the same boat also. I am continually engaging with the google twitter account. They have told me that their IT team is still reviewing, I cannot believe that this is not a business critical update. Maybe there is just a small cohort that are affected but it seems to be big.

Not sure if this is true but saw a comment on X (Twitter) that Googled laid off this team hence why this has not been resolved lol I feel sorry for those who are paying the subscription.

David87

Im in direct communication with a nest engineer on the problem. They have details of the issue including the serial numbers of my cameras in order to monitor the issue and diagnose.

I do not believe the above comment on twitter has any relevance.

After 6 plus long months of waiting, issue still persists. I have been in contact with the Google Home team via X and email. They finally got back to my with a solution today after waiting a good month. They are basically blaming my phone and don’t seem to be taking any action to correct any app issues. I will be filing a complaint and hopefully be getting my money back for the cameras and the money I’ve spent on the subscription. This is total nonsense already.

They’re blaming your phone? That’s insane. There are plenty of others out here with the same issue (including my wife who had the issue with her old iPhone and a brand new iPhone 15

Exactly. They actually told me to check my phone’s settings at an Apple store after I’ve been troubleshooting for 6 months. They don’t think I’ve checked all of my phone’s settings? I’ve done every single troubleshooting step in the book and it’s still not working! It’s clear that they just gave up and are “nicely” telling me to F off…

Wondering if Apple and iOS 17 is to blame…. Seems that is the common link for everyone? It all started with that update?
