Built in Chromecast on Sony Bravia no longer casts from phone

Hi there, recently hit a wall in casting from my phone's Google Chrome app to my TV (with built in Chromecast) 

I've contacted Sony support and they did a whole slew of things and eventually suggested to factory reset my TV which I did in the end but it didn't work so they said it may be a device issue (I have a Pixel 6)

Everything is up to date on my phone including the Chrome app. I can still cast and connect to my TV via YouTube and Spotify apps so I'm not sure why casting from the Chrome app is the only issue 😕 

Just for context, I have been able to cast from my phone to TV to watch things from a streaming site seamlessly and then all of sudden it stopped working. I would cast and the TV would load the cast for a bit and then eventually return to the Home page of my TV. I wondered if it was an issue with the website but casting works for my friends so I don't think it's that.. 

Does anyone know what the issue is and how to fix this? 

The current version on my TV is 1.56.292394 if that helps in any way.

I'm sorry for the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that casting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as this can be difficult to troubleshoot on your own. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • Are you able to cast from any other apps?
  • Are you able to cast from another device, such as a computer or tablet?
  • Is your Google Home app and Chrome app up-to-date?
  • Are you using any kind of VPN or proxy?
  • Are you able to cast from other websites using Google Chrome?

Apologies for the many questions, there are many different factors that could be causing this issue, and this should narrow it down a bit. I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

No problem at all! I'm still having the casting issue unforunately.. but I'm glad to hear from you and appreciate your help!

  • Are you able to cast from any other apps?
    Yes, I can still cast from other apps such as Youtube and Spotify 
  • Are you able to cast from another device, such as a computer or tablet?
    No, I was unable to cast from my laptop. I tried doing so from the streaming website on my computers Chrome page and it didn't work 😕 
  • Is your Google Home app and Chrome app up-to-date?
    Yes, they are both up to date on my phone.
  • Are you using any kind of VPN or proxy?
    No, I don't believe so.
  • Are you able to cast from other websites using Google Chrome?
    I'm unable to cast from other websites either. 

I look forward to hearing your response. I've been having this issue for awhile now and it's nice that there may be a solution to this finally!

Hey there Roshi9,

 

No problem at all! In this situation, it sounds like the issue is isolated to the Google Chrome app on your phone. The first thing I would do is clear out the cached app data from Google Chrome and Google Home, and try casting again, in case there was anything cached that was affecting the connection. Second, try rebooting your phone, as that can fix it every so often. If that doesn't work, go ahead and uninstall and re-install the Google Chrome app. Finally, just to double-check, try using the Google Canary browser app and see if the problem persists. That is an experimental version of Google Chrome.
