If I listen to (for example) BBC Sounds Live on my phone then I can pause, rewind, forward content. If I cast the content to my Chromecast(s) then I can no longer rewind or restart the stream. This is the case for my Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Home or Google Chromecast. If I'm listening to a non-live stream then it's fine.
I get exactly the same whether I'm casting music (e.g. BBC Sounds) or video (GCN+, Discovery+), there is no rewind/restart function available when casting but it's fine if I'm listening/watching on the app.
I'd always assumed that this was a limitation of Google Casting but I'm not so sure...

I'll add that my WiFi router is a Google Nest router and I do not have a VPN active on my phone.

Hi wimpler,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Based on your description, it seems that your Chromecast device is working as intended. The Chromecast device’s task is to cast, and as long as it’s doing that, it knows it has done its job. Features such as captions, subtitles, language, content controls, etc. are all coded in the app. Some of these codes remain on the intended media player to play, which is the smartphone, and as the phone casts (rebroadcasts) them to the Chromecast (TV), it doesn’t fully transfer the feature to do so. Some of the app developers already anticipated this and advanced their coding for cast-enabled apps, but not all. It’s best that you contact the app developer for this.
I hope this sheds light on the situation. Let us know if you have other questions.
Thanks,
Kimy
