Assume you're talking about the Chromecast with Google TV (CCGTV) since the 1st gen chromecast or any gen chromecast up to the Ultra doesn't have a remote.

That said, the CCGTV's remote works the chromecast via BT. The remote has IR to work your TV or receiver, but the CCGTV itself is controlled via Bluetooth through its remote. So if you lost it, you'd have to buy a universal remote with BT like the Sofabaton or you can pick up a replacement remote, or one step better, their new standard remote that comes with other Google TV devices. Sadly I don't know of any US based site that sells them separately, but they can be had from Aliexpress for under $15. Unfortunately shipping is slow. Apparently it didn't like my link to the remote. So if you go to www.aliexpress.com and search for "MeCool KM7 Remote", it should show up. They use the new standard reference remote included with all new Google TV devices. Shame if you buy the CCGTV, google gives you their junk remote. I'm not a fan of it anyway. You'll see a listings that looks like the black remote, but it can be had in black or white.

In the meantime, you can always use your phone as the remote. Works through the home app. It's not ideal, but it's at least a temp fix, and it works great when you have to type in information since you use your phone's keyboard. Info is here:
