All 3 Chromecast lost connection to my 5Ghz wifi band after the recent update. I tried reset and set-up. Nothing works. Only works with 2.4Ghz band now. All my other devices at home has no issues connecting and working with 5Ghz wifi. Google screwed up the recent firmware. Please fix urgently. This is on Chromecast Gen 2 and 3. The 2.4GHz band on my router has much reduced speed.

I didn't realise the Chromecast Ultra was affected as well, but if it's been updated to the 275994 firmware (same as CC2 and CC3), then higher channel 5GHz WiFi is probably broken.
2.4GHz or a lower 5GHz channel (36-48) are your interim workarounds.

That explains quite a bit. I haven't been able to find my tv Chromecast ultra on my wireless to cast and so it must be connecting to the 5ghz band and then failing to stay connected.
I've also factory reset it twice with no luck.

Thank you so much. I've changed my router's channel to 48 and my Chromecast 3 was able to connect to 5Ghz network again. That thing was driving me crazy.

Thanks, that worked.

I returned from a holiday and now having the same issue. Chromecast gen 2 not recognising my 5 GHz wifi, only 2.4 GHz. Ive tried a factory reset of the Chromecast and resetting the router but to no avail.

I just left mine alone for a couple of days and then it started working again, unfortunately there isn't much to be helpful.

Mine just went down as well. No 5Ghz but I can get to 2.4. What is going on?!
02-27-2022 01:43 AM
It's having authentication problems?

I've changed SSID, channel, 5 ghz to 2.4 ghz, factory reset, and even created a new SSID just for it with no luck of it working properly. I can reset it and readd it then it just drops again.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was something Google changed in the firmware and haven't pushed out a fix.

I have no idea. I got so frustrated with it one night that I literally drove two hours round trip to get the Chromecast with Google TV.
Maybe when I need to add the Chromecast ultra to something it'll work.

Same here on 2 Chromecast devices. Hopefully a fix will come soon, 2.4 is crowded here, hence slow as f.

Hey there,
If you have an older Chromecast device, as hiluke pointed out, there was a change in a recent firmware update that now requires the 5GHz to be in a lower channel range, 36-48 seems to be a good range.
However, if you are still experiencing this issue on an older Chromecast device, and you have already set your 5GHz channel range, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran

Hi
would any mind explain how I change the channel to a new one? Got new speed broadband and the old chrome cast won’t stay connected and it’s the only way we watch tv.
Thanks in advance!

What provider do you have?

Sky broadband, I’ve managed to factory rest everything and it’s working now but I did that yesterday and then this morning it wasn’t having it at all so did it all again…lol
