Chromecast Casting w/ no Internet

Wramus
Community Member

I do not own a Chromecast & am trying to figure out if Chromecast is for me. I want a device that will allow me to mirror my Pixel 6 Pro to a HDMI Monitor without WiFi, A mobile Hotspot, ethernet connection or any other network connection. I want to watch Hulu/Netflix/YouTube/TikTok and play games using a computer monitor connected to my phone without connecting the Chromecast to any network connection whatsoever. I have looked online & cannot find a straight answer on this.

Example:

- Can I plug the Chromecast into a monitor

- Connect it to my phone via Bluetooth (or other non-internet means)

- See my home screen, apps, videos, etc.

- using only my phones normal-- non-hotspot 5G connection

------

I only have 5GB of hotspot data & thus, using my phone as a WiFi modem is not an option for streaming video ~4 or more hrs a day.

I'm sorry, Chromecast will not work for your situation.

All chromecast devices require a wifi network with full internet access at all times.  Even when you are just mirroring your device.

You would probably do best to just get an HDMI cable for your Pixel 6.   Here is a post about that from the Pixel Phone Forum

Thank you for the answer!

Could you please elaborate more on "...an HDMI cable for your Pixel 6." It's very difficult to find any info how how to mirror with a wired connection. I tried this the other day with a friend's usbc>HDMI docking station & the monitor did not detect any input...

The only dock on https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2865484?hl=en is $170!!!

Hi folks,

@Byteguy, thanks for the help.

@Wramus, to set up and project on your Pixel phone, follow the steps that came with your compatible dock. When you open this link Project your Pixel phone's screen, you will see another link that will take you to the media gear page. This is the link to open MediaGear USB-C Hub Docking Station then search for the item number 853265008171. That will tell you what to do. But still, these are workarounds that may or may not work since Chromecast still relies heavily on WiFi connection to work and for the setup to be completed.

Tell me how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Wramus,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best,

Dan
