Chromecast Google TV fails to connect after factory reset

I am having issues casting from Android as well as from chrome from various streaming sites after factory reset.

I had a issue with a white light blinking on my Google TV remote. I had contacted customer service and they had me do a factory reset.

After doing so the sites that I was currently using to cast will fail in multiple ways.

1. I hit the Chrome button on the streaming player and it will  initiate the Chromecast where I choose the device. The TV will turn on and I get a black screen with a blue Chromecast icon and nothing happens.

2. Same as above but the blue icon disappears and a loading bar streams across the bottom but then it jumps to the main Chromecast screen on the TV without loading.

Before doing the factory reset one of two things would happen.

1. The site would stream after the scenario listed in number two above

2. The TV would turn on and the main Chromecast screen would show up with a icon that said "default device" with the Chromecast symbol. When I selected that then it would Chromecast on the TV. After factory reset this option does not present itself to me.

I suspect Chromecast is blocking or there's some setting I need to turn on as the interface on the TV screen does seem a little different than before so maybe there was an update?

By the way I can still cast a tab from the web browser but then I lose the remote control functionality plus it uses resources to play the video on the computer while casting the tab. In the past if there was a Chromecast tab it would revert from tab mode to going through the router direct or whatever it was doing where the video on the computer would stop playing and it would just play on the TV.

Hi Mstar1,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand — these are of great help!

Quick questions: are you also experiencing the same issue when casting from a Chromecast-enabled app? Are you getting any messages when casting a video content? Please make sure the Chrome browser is updated and reboot your casting device (mobile and computer).

Thanks,

Jennifer

I do not receive any error messages. If the TV is not on the new issue is even from chrome it will turn on the TV but not continue to play content. I have to click on the Chromecast icon a second time if the TV wasn't already on. This wasn't how it worked before having the factory reset.

Can you you provide examples of what is a chrome enabled app ?

I am not clear on what you want me to do as far as rebooting. You said the device but then you mentioned the computer and the Android app.

YouTube is also slow to respond. If I'm sending from my Android device from YouTube to the Chromecast, it takes much longer than it used to but then eventually connects. When clicking the Chromecast icon in the player on some streaming sites Chromecast will go as far as turning to a black screen with a racing white bar at the bottom but instead of loading the video it will stop and make a blue Chromecast icon. This does not happen on all sites but on many when prior it did not

Hello Mstar1,

Sorry for the confusion. What I mean for the casting device, is the device you're using to cast video content to your TV such as the mobile phone or computer/laptop. Also, the examples of Chromecast-enabled apps are, YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, etc.

Please try to uninstall and reinstall the Chrome browser from your computer. Also, check the antivirus of the computer as there are cases (mostly on Windows) wherein the Chromecast device fails to work after the antivirus finished an update. If this happens, you may contact your antivirus provider.

Thanks,

Jennifer

So I did a factory reset of the Chromecast for a second time just to rule that out.

I removed and reinstalled Chrome on the PC.

The issue still persists.

Prior to doing that I had tried just resetting from the system menu on the TV for the Google TV Chromecast.

And it actually worked for one show and then no longer work.

Yes I can cast a tab but I lose my ability to use the remote control for play pause CC and Fw/rr . Plus it uses more system resources because the video still plays on the PC.

I tried casting from Android phone in Chrome browser for Android. It would not cast when clicking the icon on the streaming player. However if I switched to desktop view on the phone it would cast like a tab with no control from the Google remote.

Prior to doing the factory reset I had tried to reboot from the app on the Google TV  menu system and using the same site was able to cast one show as I did in the past but then no longer would work after. I tried resetting again to see if I could figure out if that had anything to do with it and was not successful on other reboots but it shows that the ability is still there but maybe something is being blocked..

This all started when the Google TV remote had a light appear at the bottom and the remote was not working. They had me do a factory reset and re-pair the remote and that's when I noticed that the interface screen looked different. I don't remember on the prior screen seeing my email icon and the icon look was different. So was there some sort of update that maybe removed some of the functionality of the product?

I would used to cast and would get one of two situations. I would get it either automatically starting after a black screen with a streaming bar at the bottom. Or I would get an icon that was white and would say something like default. It would have the Chromecast logo. I would click on that and it would start the video playing and I would have control with the Google TV remote. Why don't I have that anymore?
