Chromecast W/ GoogleTV audio cuts out

FatalException
Community Member

When playing YouTube videos I frequently have issues with audio cutting out. This appears to be a very old issue from seeing posts on various platforms, but it hasn't been solved yet.

I have the Chromecast plugged in to an HDMI port of an older Samsung LED TV. I have the TV speakers off and an LG sound bar connected by optical audio. Changing the Chromecast audio from surround to stereo made it happen less often, but it still happens.

Hey there FatalException,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having some audio issues, I can imagine it's pretty distracting when you are watching shows. I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Is your firmware up-to-date?
  • Have you tried changing the HDMI port that the Chromecast is plugged into?
  • Are you able to connect the Chromecast to the soundbar, then plug the soundbar into the TV via HDMI?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

This issue has happened since first getting the Chromecast w/TV. Firmware is up to date.
Changing from surround sound to stereo in the Chromecast settings helped some but didn't get rid of the problem completely.

On of the biggest draws for getting this device was the ability to have it hidden completely behind a wall-mounted TV. I really don't want to connect it to the sound bar (also wall mounted) and have it dangling. My next idea is to change from connecting the TV and sound bar by optical to HDMI using the ARC HDMI port. I am going to try that when I get the chance.

Hey there FatalException,

Just out of curiosity, did you try using the ARC HDMI port? I know usually people want to connect any kind of sound system or soundbar into the ARC HDMI, and the Chromecast into any other port. Some users have had success connecting the Chromecast into the soundbar, then connecting the soundbar into the ARC HDMI, which is what I may have suggested, but since you have a particular setup, you may not desire that.

Best regards,

Jeran
