Chromecast and iOS 15.1

Is anybody else facing issues casting to their chromecast from IOS 15.1. I’m using the iPhone 13 pro max and the iPhone X.  Although the connection seems normal on my TV, my phone can’t detect any casting device. Appreciate your help if you know how to fix the issue. Thanks

I am having exactly the same issue. iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 15.1.1 - my phone just cannot detect any Chromecast devices, even though it can see everything else in Google Home, and my Android devices can cast to the Chromecasts just fine. Clearly something got broken in the iOS 15 update, but there seems to be no official report on it.

Hey there AdamIdris,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that casting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I know this particular issue can be hard to fix alone. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast?
  • What version of the Google Home app are you using?
  • Do your iPhones have Bluetooth enabled?
  • Do your iPhones also have Local Network Access enabled?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Oh, awesome! I'm glad to hear that! In that case, I'll go ahead and lock up this thread. If you run into any more issues in the future, feel free to create a new thread.

I hope you have a good one!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

As AdamIdris isn't responding, I will.

  • I got my iPhone 4 weeks ago, it's been an issue for me from the very first day.
  • The cast firmware is: 1.56.275994
  • On the iPhone 13 Pro Max I have the Google Home app in version 2.47.111
  • Bluetooth is enabled
  • Local Network Access is enabled
  • Originally thinking it was an issue with my PiHole and custom DNS setup I've completely removed that machine from my network and now have a regular home router handling DNS, DHCP etc. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app on the phone, done all available iOS updates, rebooted the Chromecast.

Interestingly, occasionally I can connect to a Chromecast, but only for a brief period. For example, within the Netflix app it will say there are no casting devices available. If I keep opening and closing the cast menu within the app sometimes the chromecast appears, and I can connect and start a show playing, however within a few minutes its disconnected and unable to find the chromecast again. Sometimes turning wifi off and on again helps, but not often.

Anecdotally, there seem to have been quite a few people with this issue in recent months looking online, so I'm hoping there's something we can do to get to the bottom of this as it's a key driver away from the Google ecosystem for me.

Thanks,
