Chromecast does not power on

Hi,

I don't know which gen this is, the box doesn't say. Model NC2-6A5.

Chromecast has previously worked perfectly but now I came home and it doesn't work. The led in the device is off. The power adapter and cord works fine for example for loading a phone, but it does not power up the Chromecast. Have also tried different power cords and socket adapters but the device still doesn't power up. Have tried pressing the reset button while powered on but nothing. Also keeping the tv and Chromecast off power for over thirty minutes. Quite sure the fault is in the chromecast device.

What could be the cause and fix?

Hi Jhns,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand — I appreciate it! Based on the model number, you have a Chromecast 2nd Gen device.

To cover all the bases, please unplug your Chromecast 2nd Gen and plug it back in after 24 hours on your TV. Plugging it on a different TV screen if one is available might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, unfortunately that didn't help. Chromecast is still dead, no light. I don't have another TV but I tried it to a different hdmi input. I don't understand how that would help as the power comes from the socket and not the tv?

Is there anything else I could do?

Hi,

I don't know when and from where this was bought as I got it from a friend. Probably bought from Finland that's all I know. Looks like I need to open it check if I can locate any damaged parts.

Hi Jhns,

Understood. Since we have exhausted the troubleshooting steps for your issue, the next best step is to replace it. However, as much as we'd love to replace your device, it's no longer within our Limited Warranty and also, the device is no longer available. We know this is not the best answer that you're looking for, but let us know if you still have other questions otherwise, I'll be locking this after 24 hours.

Note: we don't recommend dismantling the device as this may cause additional issues with your device.

Thanks,

Jennifer
