Chromecast guest mode

robbadgie
Community Member

Morning,

I cannot get guest mode to work on my Chromecast.

I set it up using my iPhone and it casts correctly from it. Guest mode is switched on. I also have every app granted access to my local network.

Then when I try to cast from my iPad - which has both mobile data and wifi switched on, but is not connected to my wifi network (as I asked it to forget the network) - I get no option to connect to guest mode.

Can anyone tell me what I've missed? Thank you

Hi robbadgie,

Thanks for posting. Check the steps listed below to see how you can connect to Guest mode:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Google > Device connections > Cast options > Guest mode.
  3. Tap OK to allow Google to scan your network information and find nearby devices to cast to.
  4. Open any Chromecast-enabled app and tap the Cast button.
  5. Select Nearby device and follow the prompts to connect.
  6. Enter the 4-digit PIN.

For more detailed info about Guest mode, please visit this support website article

Thanks,

Jennifer

Thank you. As mentioned, I do have Guest mode switched on. It's just not appearing as a connection option when I use a Chromecast-enabled app.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. What's the iOS version of your iPad? Please reboot your Chromecast and reinstall the Google Home app. If the issue persists, please factory reset your Chromecast.

Thanks,

Jennifer

No success I'm afraid. IoS is the latest version, just updated again. I tried the above and I'm still getting no guest mode to attach to.

Hey there,

Yikes! Could you please tell me what type of Chromecast device do you have? Please double check if the local network access is also enabled in your iPad's settings. If it's enabled, please turn it off and back on then reboot your iPad. Also, try the steps below:

  1. Verify that your guest mode is on your device running Android 4.3+ or iOS8+.
  2. Verify Wi-Fi settings:
    1. On the Android/iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > More > Advanced.
    2. Make sure the checkbox next to Scanning always available is checked.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I'm going to give up and return this now. I can cast fine from a device connected to the same network. But from a device that's not connected (using the ios youtube app) no guest mode shows - all the network settings look fine. All of the support on the Google website focusses on Android devices, which is no help to ios users. Maybe this simply doesnt work with ios apps.
