Chromecast no video just sounds when casting from Netflix

HannahBaneena

I have been using my Chromecast 3rd gen pretty well during the first half of 2021. However, sometime during September, when I tried playing movies from Netflix and Youtube, all I hear are the audio from the videos. The TV screen is completely black. I have already done the “reboot” in the Google Home app. I have also tried to do hard reset on the dongle. But I am still having the same issue. Please help.

Hey there HannahBaneena,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that video issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I can imagine this issue is pretty annoying. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • Does this issue only occur on Netflix?
  • Does this issue occur when casting from another device, such as a computer or tablet?
  • What version of iOS is your phone using?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi,

Pls. see my reply below:

  • Does this issue only occur on Netflix? To all other apps as well.
  • Does this issue occur when casting from another device, such as a computer or tablet? It happens when I am casting from all devices—phone and laptop.
  • What version of iOS is your phone using? Latest one— 15.4
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried? I tried restarting my TV , router and Chromecast several times. But nothing worked.

Hey there HannahBaneena,

In this scenario, I would re-create the issue and check the color of the LED light on the Chromecast. There are different steps we can try depending on what going on with the Chromecast itself. For example, you may need to change the HDMI port the Chromecast is plugged into, or try another TV in general. Let me know what LED light the Chromecast is giving off, and try the relevant steps listed in the article, and let me know if that helps at all, or if you run into any issues.

Best regards,

Jeran
