Chromecast not finding Wi-Fi

MasterOdd

Hi there.

My Chromecast has worked perfectly for over a year and a half. Recently I had to get a new router and modem from Spectrum, My Chrome told me to do a factory reset because it was set up on another device.

I have done 4 factory resets with the Chromecast, then setting it up through the Google Home app. The home app initially finds the Chromecast and it links via the onscreen code etc, but then at the end, it says the Chromecast cannot connect to the WiFi. I know what my Wi-Fi password is and I have entered it correctly since my livingroom Chromecast works just fine

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi MasterOdd,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. If another Chromecast device was successfully set up and working, it could be related to the setup device or the Chromecast device itself. Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  • Reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Reboot your phone (the one with the Google Home App).
  • Reboot the router.
  • Isolate it by trying on another setup device.

Thanks,

Kimy

I have factory reset over 20 times and I still get to the point where everything is recognized then I get the error of (can not connect to wi-fi)

After several pages of reading I think it is because of my new spectrum router being the new 6 gen. But that does not explain how my other chromecast is connected just fine.

Other pages keep saying its the 5ghz is the problem.... No... The other is connected just fine.

So I am going to yo buy a new 3rd gen and try to connect it. If it works im just going to stuff this one in the box and return it as defective. So I will get a new one for free.

Hello MasterOdd,

Thanks for the reply. I understand that you’ve already attempted to troubleshoot the Chromecast device, but have you tried to work on the setup device? It could just be the Google Home App. Or the phone just needs to restart; after all, the phone would connect the Chromecast device to the WiFi using the Google Home app. I think the router is fine since the other Chromecast device is working. Try to work on the casting device and let us know how it goes.
