Chromecast offline to Casting Apps, and weird broken symbol/image bottom left tv.

My Chromecast was working fine until yesterday and suddenly I'm unable to cast anything because Home says the device is offline. A weird icon (broken picture?) also appears beside the network name. I tried all the troubleshooting (resetting both the chromecast and my router, changed wifi network, rebooting devices, switching hdmi ports, etc). The weird thing is i can control the Chromecast volume from the home app, but can't cast. All my casting apps don't recognize it, please help.

I have had the exact same issue!!! I’ve had no luck getting this fixed. Have you had any luck since?

Unfortunately no! I also tried resetting the modem/router which connected it for a few minutes, enough time to start a streaming service, then it stopped and my devices couldn't detect them! The chromecast appears in the router/modem settings but isn't on the same Ghtz band as my devices (laptop/mobile). I don't know if this is the issue and don't know how to rectify it.  So very frustrating. I have 2 Chromecast (2nd gen) and it affects both.

Hi guys- I’m having this exact same issue. I’ve tried everything the internet has to offer in terms of solutions!

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the delay in response. If the TV is still showing ambient mode (screensaver), then it means it is connected to the Wi-Fi, and it all boils down to which band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). The casting source (smartphone, tablet, etc.) needs to be connected to it as well. If it persists, try to isolate a possible network issue by setting it up this time on another smartphone’s mobile hotspot.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy
