Chromecast remote batteries draining within weeks

CaroKelly
Community Member

Reposting this because as soon as my batteries drained I tried to return to my 4 week old post and Google had closed it.

I posted this issue exactly 4 weeks ago- when I installed brand new batteries - Energiser Max. Is that how long we should expect batteries to last?

-I reset the chromecast and repaired the remote.

-the chromecast is 2-3m from the remote.

-there are no lights on remote (unless I press assistant but it doesn’t stay on).

Tried to paste the link to the closed post but doesn’t work - why does google close these posts when there are others with the same problem? Why not merge threads so everyone can come together on and share their experience/solutions ?

Here’s the text from the closed post:

Remote batteries recently started draining in weeks. Bought the device 2021 and was working fine up until about 3-4 months ago. Since then I have been through about 20 batteries which is about 10 times more than I went through in the 2 years I’ve had the device so somethings up. Guessing it’s a bug with the latest firmware - anyone know if there’s a fix coming soon? I’m spending a fortune on batteries! Things I think that could be causing it: remote speaker is set to always on (listening for hey Google) ; or Bluetooth pairing mode stuck on. Thanks

Hey there CaroKelly,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast Voice Remote is eating through batteries so fast! I'd be happy to assist you, since I can imagine this has been quite the headache. Go ahead and check if the batteries are AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries, as those work best with the remote. Then, I would factory reset the remote and re-pair it. If the problem persists, we may have to get you with support to look at replacing the remote.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Yes batteries are 1.5v alkaline and I tried factory resetting and re-pairing after the last battery replacement and they still only lasted 4 weeks

Hiya CaroKelly,

No problem, in that case, we might want to look at replacing that remote. Would you be able to fill out this form to have someone from Chromecast Support reach out to you?

Best regards,

Jeran
