Chromecast reset issues.

Bought a used Chromecast  I believe 3rd Gen or ultra not sure which one. But I am unable to reset it back to factory. It has an ip address displayed but unable to get on to same network. When I hold the button down the picture will go to black but nothing happens won't  come back unless you power cycle and it comes back to setup screen with the multiple ways of initiating setup. Hope someone out there has a solution for me.

Can you still see your Chromecast in the Google Home app? If so:

  1. Touch and hold your Chromecast.
  2. At the top right, tap the Settings cog, then 3 dots > Factory reset > Factory reset.

If not, I'll describe what it should do when resetting it using the physical button. While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV, hold down the button on the side of the Chromecast. The LED should begin to blink orange. When the LED light turns white, release the button and the Chromecast should then restart.

neither of these work as i said in initial post i hold reset button down picture goes to black but led remains same colour blue i think it is.

Thanks for getting back to us. Could you please try to plug your Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV? Also, plugging it in on a different TV screen (if applicable), then do the factory reset there might also help.

Not working at all still unable to reset. Have tried different inputs on tv and also a totally different tv. I when holding button down screen goes to black and led stays blue nothing changes or comes back unless you power cycle the device. Have also tried different USB ports on tv to power and also used a power block to power device and still no changes.

Is there any way to force or download new software onto the device.

Thanks for the swift reply and for trying the suggested steps. 

 

The update is done automatically and there's no way to force update the Chromecast. If still possible, you may return your Chromecast to where you purchased it. This might be a hardware issue with the Chromecast.

Unfortunately I am unable to return it as I bought it used and that's why I am here looking for other solutions
