Chromecast setup from Google home not working

Can't get Chromecast working.  Trying to set up Chromecast between HDMI computer monitor and Android phone.  Monitor and Android phone are both connected to same Wi-Fi network.  Can't get connected through Google home app on phone.  We get to the point where the four letter code shows up on both the monitor and the phone.  But we can't seem to cast anything.

I am also running into this issue. Same results with Pixel 6 or 4. Posted solutions that involve turning off WiFi don't work as the Home won't let me find devices without WiFi on. I'm assuming Google Home and Device Utility are the same app as a  search for 'Device Utility App' only brings up the Home app in the store.

 

Why would anyone buy a Google product knowing they aren't compatible with one another? FFS Google, go back to hiring engineers based on skills and merit.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the Google Home app which is extremely confusing.  I unplugged this Chromecast from a TV where it was working with an Android phone.  I plugged it into a different location and WIFI network and now can't get it working.  I have reset the Chromecast.  Bring back the old Chromecast app that did nothing but cast.  I don't need it to adjust my thermostat or turn on the lights!

 jss321, please try to reboot your phone and try again. Using a different mobile phone such as a non Pixel or a non Android device to setup your Chromecast if one is available might also help.

 

MomNick, are you getting any messages when setting up your Chromecast using the Google Home app? What type of Chromecast device do you have? Please try to manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.
