I used to always be able to skip through recorded content, i.e. "Hey Google, fast forward four minutes." It always used to work and in fact, it currently does work with my Chromecast 4k devices as well as an HD Chromecast. It's only the Chromecast with Google TV which doesn't work. Instead, regardless of whether I tell Google to skip ahead or go back, it always goes back to the beginning of the program and starts replaying. Most irritating after getting used to telling Google to skip ahead to skip through commercials on recorded content. This used to work until Google broke it. Oh, and as for lowering volume when issuing a command, this has NEVER worked on this device.

Hello nagytom62,
Thanks for reaching out. May I know if this is also happening when using the Google Assistant on the Voice Remote? Could you please try to reboot your Chromecast and Google Home device then command it by saying "OK Google, sync my devices"?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
The prescribed fix only worked for that one day. Now, no matter what I do, asking Google to skip forward on the Chromecast DVR'd program to return to the beginning of the episode. The SYNC ALL DEVICES command no longer fixes the problem. Most irritating.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi nagytom62,
Oh no! Could you please try to reset your Chromecast with Google TV and Google Home device then try again?
Keep me posted.
Thanks,

So I restarted both the Chromecast with Google TV as well as the Google Nest Home Hub Max. Upon the restart, I asked it to sync all devices. But sadly, the behavior concerning fast forwarding continued to lead to the beginning of the recorded program. I have to always be present and handle the remote in order to fast forward through commercials. Often I'm in the kitchen when a commercial comes on and it USED TO BE so convenient to just tell Google to skip ahead four minutes. But sadly, Google's evolution continues to generate buggy software with fewer features than it had previously, breaking things that have worked well in the past.

Hello there,
To confirm, when you say you restart the devices, does it mean that you've rebooted it or you've performed a factory reset? If you've just rebooted it, please do a factory reset on both devices. Follow the steps on the hyperlink above.
Thanks,
Jennifer

That is a major hassle!!!! Will I lose all my apps on the TV? This is a no go solution.

Hey nagytom62,
I'm sorry for the late reply. Yes, once you reset the Chromecast, it will go back to its default settings and you need to install the apps after setting it up. I totally understand that this can be frustrating, but resetting your devices to default settings is the next best step. Give it a try!

Jennifer

No worries. Yes, the problem persists and I refuse to reset my Chromecast device. Setting up all the apps again would be too much of a pain. I just have to resign myself that this functionality WHICH USED TO WORK has been broken by one of your updates as is my typical experience with all my Google Home devices. Instead, I have to use the remote to fast forward through the dang commercials.
