I have had my chromecast gen 1 for some time and now use it on a projector and it worked for months with the projector. Recently i tried to use it and the welcome screen came up, no big deal just need to reconnect it. When i try reconnecting it to wifi through the google home app when it says 'looking for devices' it cannot find it. I have already tried all the basic things (plugging it out and back in, making sure it plugged in right, putting my phone closer, factory resetting the chromecast) nothing working.

If not, I'd be happy to help you out, since these issues can be tricky to deal with. The first thing I would check is the LED light on the Chromecast itself. Yeah I’m so sorry I only figured out how to access this page now, my chromecast’s LED lights turn on

The LED light is red when switched on

If the LED light is solid red, there may be an error with your device. Unplug your Chromecast from the power source, wait about one minute, and then plug it back in. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, perform a factory reset.
