Disney+ app on Chromecast won't play audio on connected Bluetooth speaker

Hi, I've seen a few similar questions to this in closed threads but none of the posted answers have helped me. I have recently set up a Google TV chromecast dongle on my dad's TV (Hisense Roku Android). I have one on my own TV so am pretty familiar with it's workings, however my dad also uses a Bose speaker for sound (S1 Pro).

He previously had the speaker plugged in via the aux port, however when I set up the Chromecast it wasn't registering so I set it up via Bluetooth instead.

Everything worked fine for a few days, I played a movie on Disney+ and all worked well. Now suddenly Disney+ will only play sound through the inbuilt TV speakers and is silent when the Bose speaker is on and connected.

Troubleshooting I've tried:

- all other apps work fine

- it's not specific to any movie/show—I've tried a few, including ones that worked previously

- I've checked for updates on the chromecast system and the Disney+ app

- I've unplugged and replugged the Chromecast dongle

- I've tried it with surround sound on and off

- I've cleared the cache

- I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Disney+ app

- I've disconnected and re-paired the speaker

If anyone can provide further suggestions I'd be very grateful. Thanks for your help.

I'm having a similar issue but with Sony WH-1000XM4 Bluetooth headphones.

Same issue with Disney App and I tried all the steps you mentioned as well.  I noticed that some shows especially older ones e.g. scrubs work.  I've noticed titles with Dolby sound have no sounds.  I'm surprised this bug is still around.  Netflix and other apps work with no issues.

Hey there HDF,

I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! Were you able to figure out that Disney+ issue? If not, I'd be happy to look into it, since I can imagine this issue is pretty annoying. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Have you talked to Disney+ support about this issue?
  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast device?
  • Does the issue still occur when connected to another TV?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
