“Full remote unavailable” error on Google Home app for iPhone

henrycolen

I have a Sony Bravia Android TV, and have historically been able to use my iPhone as a remote. Very recently and without a clear cause, I began to get the “Full remote unavailable” error. Meanwhile, my wife (Pixel 5 phone) has had no issues whatsoever. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app, restarting the phone, removing the device from my Home setup. But no luck. Please help!

Same problem cropped up in the last few days. I think it's a bug in the new update

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand  — these are of great help! To cover all the bases, could you please provide the iOS version of your phone? Please make sure there is no pending iOS update on your mobile and make sure that your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast and not using mobile data. Rebooting and resetting your Chromecast might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I don't have a chromecast.  I have an Android TV.  All my devices are up to the latest software update.

Hey Dmmmd,

We can take a look into this! Just like I asked henrycolen, what version of iOS are you currently using? The requirements to use the phone as a virtual remote require an iPhone with iOS 14.0 or later. If you meet the requirements, attempt to unpair, then re-pair the device to the Google TV to see if this resolves the issue.

I look forward to your response on this as well!

Thank you,

Jeran

Hey there henrycolen,

No problem, we can try a few things to see where the issue lies. Just to double-check, what version of iOS are you currently using? The requirements to use the phone as a virtual remote require an iPhone with iOS 14.0 or later. If you meet the requirements, attempt to unpair, then re-pair the device to the Google TV to see if this resolves the issue.

I look forward to your response on this!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there henrycolen,

It looks like the best way to do so would be to remove and re-add the device, but since you have already attempted that, I would recommend that you make sure the Chromecast with Google TV is up-to-date, as well as try factory resetting the Chromecast device itself. If you still run into issues, we can look a bit deeper.

I look forward to your response as usual!

Best regards,

Jeran
