Getting into Chromecast Ultra settings so I can change options

TCMullet

I cast fine from a web browser to my Chromecast Ultra via ethernet.  But I need to change it to allow output at 1080 resolution.  I was told several years ago I can change settings like that ONLY from the app via wireless.  I can't get the app to work.

Hi TCMullet,

Thanks for reaching out — let’s see what’s going on. What phone are you using (Android or iOS)? It is important that your phone (with the Google Home app) is on the same network/bandwidth (2.4GHz/5GHz) as your Chromecast Ultra. Also, what version of Google Home app is installed on your phone? Reinstalling the Google Home app might help.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Kimy

My Android phone is connected to my wireless access point which is at 2.4Ghz.  How do I find out what bandwidth Google Home is on?  I just reinstalled Google Home.  It's version 2.66.1.13.

Hi there,

Got it! After reinstalling the Google Home app, were you able to access the settings of your Chromecast Ultra? If not, make sure that you are logged in to the same account that you used when you set it up.

You can also try to do a factory reset and then setup again using your preferred account. Once setup is complete, just click your Chromecast device in the Google Home app. Then click the gear icon to apply your desired settings.

Keep me posted.

I did the factory reset.  Then it prompted me through setting up a home and a room in the home where I have the ChromeCastUltra.  But the gear of settings does not show any option to set or change the video resolution.  I was told this could be toggled between 720p and 1080p.  I see no such reference.  What am I missing?  And can YOU look directly into my account to figure out what the heck is going on?

Hiya TCMullet

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! What app are you trying to cast from? The app itself should have the option to change the video resolution. For example, if you're casting from YouTube, clicking the settings on the video itself will present those options.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

I cast from a Windows 10 PC.  I picked a video of my own that I believe is at 1080p60.  The Chromecast Ultra still stays at 720p.  To eliminate variables in this mystery, please send me a link to a Youtube video that you KNOW is 1080p60.  I will open it in my Chrome browser on Windows 10 and attempt to cast from it to the Ultra.

I forgot to add, the signal triggers my TV device to operate at 720p, the framerate is only 30 fps and picture is poor quality even though my internet speed is 300 mbps (and my LAN is 1 gigabit).  When I view the video on the browsing PC, the picture is sharp and the framerate is 60 fps.  I still remember several years ago when I bought this Ultra that someone at your end told me that I'd have to make an adjustment to the Chromecast via wireless access.
