Google Home app not showing guest mode turn on feature

Qbeetle
Community Member

Running the latest Google Home App

Chromecast

Firmware version 291998

Cast firmware 1.56.291998

IOS 16.5.1 (c)

When I try and enable guest mode per the instructions (select device in app, settings, recog..., ) the button to enable guest mode does not appear at all.

Searched the web and could not find a good answer as to why it is not showing up

Please help as I bought a new chromecast because I thought my older one was the issue

Chromecast with Google TV does not have the guest mode feature, I'm afraid.

Then you should be able to turn it on by following these steps, but you're saying you don't see the option to do that? Would you mind sharing a photo or screenshot?

Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app?

Hi folks,

Qbeetle, thanks for reaching out. Guest mode is no longer supported. Guests can cast content from their Android or iOS devices by connecting to the host’s Wi-Fi network. You can check this link for more details: Cast video from Chromecast-enabled apps to your TV

Thanks for the help here, davidking.

Juni

I guess you can close the case since it is no longer supported. I will have to figure out something else for camping

Hi Qbeetle,

We’re sorry for the trouble. A workaround I can suggest is to set up your Chromecast 3rd Gen and connect it to your mobile hotspot. If you have sufficient data service on your phone, this would work. And if you’re using an Android phone, this is more convenient, as it can be the hotspot source and the casting device at the same time. You may need to use another phone/device for setting up to get the Chromecast device connected to your phone’s mobile hotspot. Once it’s all set up, you won't need the other phone/device. I hope this works for you. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
