Google tv chromecast

Copied from a previous post... but this is my exact problem

I have an older Chromecast on one tv and a newer Google TV on another TV. I have a Google Home Mini and a Google Nest Mini. Both communicate to all devices, however the Google TV will not play content with voice commands.

For example, if I ask either device to "Play Schitts Creek on Living Room TV" (the device with the newer Google TV) they say okay and turn on the TV. However, instead of playing the media, it just takes me to the home page. Even if I am on the home page and say the same command, nothing plays.

If I ask the same command to play on "Bedroom TV" (the device with the older Chromecast), it turns on the TV and begins playing the show just fine

Any guidance or feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey there Bpanz,

I apologize for the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that Google Assistant issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Are both of the Chromecast devices ones with Google TV?
  • Is your Google Home app up-to-date?
  • Is your Chromecast's firmware up-to-date?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

My original Chromecast was not one with Google tv. It started as soon as I installed the one with Google tv. Everything is up to date regarding updates and firmware. It's just rather annoying because now I need the remote to watch anything. It was one thing when I use my phone to search for something, but one of the most used features is just asking Google to play something. I got it to a point where when I ask it's a play something, it'll load the show onto the tv. But I can't figure out what voice commands actually press play without the remote. Which eliminates the actual need for voice control. Which again, is the whole purpose of having the Google assistant.

Hey there Bpanz,

Again, I apologize for the late response on this. I was able to re-create this same situation on my own Chromecast with Google TV. It seems like this is an intentional design choice by Google. If this is something you'd like to see change in the future, please submit feedback via Google TV. Google takes all feedback seriously, and the more feedback they receive regarding a particular feature, the more likely they are to prioritize it.

I look forward to your response, and if you had any other questions, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll go ahead and lock this thread in 24 hours.

Best regards,

Jeran
